My story

Monday 2nd Feb

My name is Keira and I am autistic.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person processes information, communicates, and responds to their environment. For me, this has included significant challenges with sensory overload, social communication, and coping with the demands of a mainstream school setting.

Despite various attempts at support, school became increasingly difficult and ultimately I was unable to remain in full-time mainstream education. Leaving school was not a choice, but a necessary step to protect my wellbeing and allow appropriate support to be put in place.

Receiving an autism diagnosis provided important clarity. It helped explain the difficulties I experienced and enabled my family and professionals to better understand my needs and identify more suitable educational approaches and support.

I am fundraising to support autism-related services and resources that help autistic children and young people access appropriate education, reasonable adjustments, and early intervention. These services are essential in improving outcomes and ensuring autistic individuals are supported in ways that work for them.

Thank you for supporting this fundraiser and helping to improve access to autism support for autistic young people and their families.
