Walking 10000 a day

Sunday 29th Mar

Autism is something I experience from two very important parts of my life.

Professionally, I work with young people with autism every day. It’s a privilege to support them, learn from them, and see the world through perspectives that are often thoughtful, creative, and refreshingly honest.

But my connection to autism isn’t only through my work — it’s also personal. My son is autistic.

Because of this, autism is part of my everyday life in a way that goes far beyond the workplace. It shapes how I see the world, how I think about inclusion, and how I understand the importance of patience, acceptance, and genuine understanding.

I see how incredible autistic young people are — their strengths, their individuality, and the ways they think differently. But I also see the barriers they face in a world that isn’t always built with them in mind.

Too often that means feeling overwhelmed, or being misunderstood.

Taking part in this walk is a small way for me to stand up for greater awareness and understanding. It’s about recognising the value of autistic people, challenging misconceptions, and helping create a world where they don’t have to change who they are to belong. 💙
