I'm walking 15,000 steps a day for Autism

💙 Autism is part of our family 💙

I’m taking on this Walk for Autism fundraising challenge for a reason that’s deeply personal to me. I’m not doing it for a medal, a fitness goal, or a challenge ticked off a list. I’m doing it for my little boy.

My son is seven years old, and he is autistic.

Before autism became part of our everyday life, I’ll be honest — I didn’t fully understand it. Most people don’t until it touches their world directly. Autism isn’t something you can sum up in a sentence or always see from the outside. It’s complex, unique, and different for every child. What I’ve learned is simple:

Autism doesn’t mean less.
It just means different.

My little boy sees the world in his own incredible way. He can turn the smallest, simplest thing into a game. He’s shown me there is magic hidden in everyday moments if you slow down enough to see it.

There was a time when words didn’t come at all.
In those days, he taught me that communication isn’t just about speech — it was the hand placed over mine to guide me, bringing something to show me what he needed, finding his own way to be heard.

Now his words ARE coming, more and more every day, and I couldn’t be prouder. But everything he taught me in those silent days stays with me forever.

This journey hasn’t always been easy.

I’ve been the mum leaving the shop in tears.
The one packing up early from the park.
The one politely declining invitations because it just felt too hard that day.

I’ve seen the looks.
I’ve heard people tell my little boy to “shhh” when he was stimming or spinning.

I’ve been the late-night Googling mum.
The one in denial.
In anger.
In heartbreak.
In complete overwhelm.

And then somehow… you become stronger. You become the warrior your child needs.

Because if raising awareness stops even one child being silenced,
If it stops one child being stared at,
If it helps one family feel less alone, or one autistic person feel understood —

THEN IT’S WORTH IT.

The truth is, the world isn’t always built with autistic children in mind. Noise, school environments, social situations, sudden changes — things others barely notice can feel huge. That’s where understanding, acceptance, and proper support make all the difference.

This charity means so much to me because it supports autistic children and families living this life every single day — providing guidance, resources, advocacy, and reassurance that you are not alone.

I’m doing this walk to raise awareness just as much as funds. Autism doesn’t need to be “fixed.” Autistic children don’t need to be changed. What they need is patience, acceptance, and a world willing to meet them halfway.

Every single step I take is for my son — for his future, his happiness, and his right to be understood.

If you choose to support this fundraiser, please know you’re not just donating money.
You’re helping create understanding.
You’re helping families feel seen.
You’re helping autistic children access the support they deserve.

This walk may last a matter of days…
but this cause lasts a lifetime.

Autism is part of our journey, our family, and our hearts — and that’s why this means everything to me.

Thank you for reading, for supporting, and for walking alongside us in spirit 💙
