My Story

Tuesday 24th Mar
Hi, my name is Phil, and when I was seven years old, I was diagnosed with Autism. This was a diagnosis that caused me a lot of stress and upset for a long time, but as I got older, I started to see the benefits of having such a condition and I wanted to understand more about this.

I started to become aware of the work done by charities such as Autism Initiatives, and I started to learn about other people who in many ways were like myself, and in many others not like myself, understanding the strengths and struggles that they receive from this lifelong condition.

Eventually I decided I wanted to work with children who have conditions such as Autism myself, as I desired the opportunity to have a far deeper understanding and acknowledgement of just what Autism is, what reminds me of myself, and what feels completely alien to me, and understand the challenges that shape their lives. Walk a mile in their shoes if you will.

So that’s what I’m going to do. For eight days from the 26th March to the 3rd April, I will be aiming to walk a total of at least 125000 steps, which is over 15k a day, to promote Autism Awareness and as the proverb goes, to walk a mile in their shoes, as I will be doing much of it in work, understanding the students and how I can best support them to find their niche in life, a place in society just for them like I wanted at their age.

If you would consider sponsoring me for this, I would be beyond grateful, as you are directly supporting a great cause that supports awareness and understanding for Autism.

I promise, together we can make future generations of Autistic children and adults feel more understood and supported than ever.

Thank you to my donors
