My reason

Friday 27th Feb
My Autism Story
If you’d told me years ago that autism would completely change my life, I probably wouldn’t have understood what that meant. Now I do.
Our journey started with our son, Alexander. He’s 5 years old now, and he has completely changed my whole outlook on life and people.
As a baby he was just like any other — smiles, cuddles, those quiet moments where they fall asleep on your chest and everything feels peaceful. But as he grew, we started noticing little differences. He wasn’t talking much. He wasn’t always responding to his name. Milestones came differently — or not at all.
When we were told he was autistic, I won’t lie — I felt everything. Confusion. Worry. Fear of the unknown. You question yourself. You wonder what the future will look like.
Alexander can say one word clearly — “Daddy.” And I can’t even explain what that feels like. That one word means more to me than a thousand conversations. It’s hard-earned. It’s powerful. It’s everything.
He shows love in his own ways. The way he takes my hand when he feels overwhelmed. The way his face lights up over the smallest things. The way he trusts me to be his safe place. That speaks louder than anything else ever could.
He’s taught me patience. He’s taught me not to judge. He’s taught me that every child moves at their own pace. He’s made me see people differently — with more understanding and more compassion — because you truly never know what someone else is going through.
There are hard days. Public meltdowns. Sleepless nights. Worries about the future. But there are also moments of pure joy — small victories that might not seem big to others but mean the world to us.
I’m doing this challenge for Alexander. Because he has changed my life. He has made me a better man and a better dad. And if sharing our story raises awareness or helps even one other family feel less alone, then every single step will be worth it.
Different doesn’t mean less. It means extraordinary in a different way.
And I am so proud to be his Daddy.❤️🌏
