Why im walking for Autism
Friday 30th JanI’m walking for autism because autism is not something distant to me. It’s not a statistic, a headline, or a cause I learned about online. Autism lives in my family, my home, and my heart.
My biological daughter is currently going through the diagnostic process for autism. As a parent, that journey brings a mix of emotions—questions, fears, hope, and a deep desire to understand her world better so I can support her in the ways she deserves. Every appointment, every observation, every waiting period reminds me how important awareness, early intervention, and access to resources truly are.
My stepdaughter has already been diagnosed with autism. She teaches me every day about strength, resilience, and seeing the world through a different lens. Her diagnosis doesn’t define her limits—it highlights her uniqueness. Being part of her life has shown me how critical acceptance, patience, and advocacy are, not just in words, but in action.
I also have a godson/nephew who has autism and is nonverbal. He communicates in ways that don’t always involve words, but his presence speaks volumes. His journey has opened my eyes to the wide spectrum of autism and the importance of supporting individuals with varying needs and abilities. He reminds me that everyone deserves to be heard, understood, and valued—whether they speak or not.
Beyond my immediate family, I’m surrounded by friends and extended family who are walking similar paths. Parents waiting for diagnoses. Loved ones learning how to support autistic children, teens, and adults. Stories of exhaustion, courage, frustration, and unconditional love. Autism touches more lives than many people realize, and no one should have to navigate it alone.
That’s why I’m choosing to walk. I’m taking on this challenge to raise money and funds that help provide resources, education, support services, and advocacy for autistic individuals and their families. I walk for the parents who need answers. For the children finding their voice in their own way. For the families who need community. For acceptance, understanding, and a future where differences are embraced—not misunderstood.
Every step I take is for them.
Every step is filled with purpose.
And every step is taken with love.
