21 High Street is taking on the Walk for Autism!
We are stepping into Autism Acceptance Month with purpose, positivity and a whole lot of community spirit - and we’d love you to be part of it.
As part of this year’s Walk for Autism, running from 26 March to 2 April, I have committed to walking 10,000 steps every day to raise awareness and vital funds for our autistic community. But the real highlight comes on 3 April, when we come together for a group celebration walk - and everyone is invited.
This is your chance to get involved, show support, enjoy some fresh air and help us continue providing meaningful social opportunities for autistic adults. These groups change lives.
Why Your Support Truly Matters
Our social groups are a lifeline for autistic adults - a place to connect, grow and feel understood. But what many people don’t realise is that our funding does not cover the cost of materials or resources that make these groups meaningful.
Your donations help us provide things like:
🎨 Art supplies for our creative groups — paints, canvases, clay, craft materials
🎲 New board games for our board‑game groups - keeping sessions fresh, fun, and inclusive
📚 Activity resources for themed sessions and monthly social events
☕ Refreshments that help create a relaxed, welcoming environment
🧩 Sensory‑friendly items that help people feel comfortable and regulated
These aren’t “extras” - they are the things that make our groups work. They are what turn a room into a community.

Let’s keep up the good work
Friday 3rd Apr
Even though this challenge has come to an end, we can still celebrate and acknowledge Autism Month now and for the rest of the year. I am really glad we spent Good Friday together today to wrap up our Walk for Autism initiative.
It was windy, it was nippy, but we showed up for ourselves and that’s what matters.
A big thank you to Greggs for providing us with some much‑needed fuel in the form of delicious jammy heart biscuits.
Let’s keep up the good work and continue raising awareness and supporting our autistic community every day.
Getting My 10k Steps In… Eventually
Tuesday 31st MarToday’s 10,000‑step journey began with…
a taxi ride.
Yes. I know.
A bold, athletic choice. Truly the fitness content people crave.
But listen, the day started the way it started, and I am choosing to believe that saving my steps for later was actually a strategic energy-conservation technique.
Luckily, the rest of my day is far less sedentary and far more heroic.
After work I am heading out with GoodGym, which means I will absolutely be walking, possibly even with purpose, pace, and an expression that says, “I’m doing this voluntarily and definitely not because my step count is currently a national embarrassment.”
We are off to Grangetown for a community mission, helping Cwtch tidy up their outdoor space to get it ready for the warmer days.
Between walking there, walking back, and wandering around looking for tasks that don’t require upper‑body strength, I’ll absolutely hit my 10k steps. Possibly even 12k, if I get lost.
So yes, the morning was not the triumphant start of a fitness icon…
but the evening?
Oh, the evening will be a tale of redemption, community spirit and a StepUp that finally stops judging me. 😄
🌟 High 5 for Day 5: finding Movement in a WFH World
Tuesday 31st MarWorking from home has its perks - soft clothes, warm drinks, and a commute that’s basically three steps and a swivel. But there is one thing it doesn’t naturally support: hitting 10,000 steps a day.
Today, that reality hit me. Between emails, calls and being glued to the screen, my step count was… let’s call it humble.
But here’s the thing:
When the usual plan doesn’t work, you make a new one.
So once I wrapped up my tasks, I decided to get creative. Instead of pacing my hallway like a restless NPC, I chose something better for today:
v A walk to the sports centre
v A Zumba class to shake off the WFH stiffness
v A Step-Up class to finish strong
It reminded me that movement can be flexible, joyful and totally adaptable.
Because truly: there is always a way.

Walking for Autism, even on the rainy days
Monday 30th MarThis weekend wasn’t the easiest one. The weather was pretty miserable, and I wasn’t feeling too well, which made staying motivated a bit tricky. Still, I was determined to keep going with Walk for Autism – Day 3&4, even if it meant getting creative with where and how I walked.
I started the day by heading out around the neighbourhood, listening to a new audiobook - the one we’ll be covering at the next book club. It felt nice to get some fresh air and make a start on the story. But as it got darker, I started feeling uneasy walking alone with my headphones in. At one point, I heard someone shouting behind me, and that was enough for my instincts to kick in. I decided to head home where I felt safe.
Once I got back, I made the rest of my steps indoors - around my room, up and down the hallway, and around the house. It wasn’t glamorous, but it worked. And honestly, that’s what this challenge is all about: doing what you can, in whatever way works for you.
So even though Day 3&4 brought bad weather, low energy, and a moment of feeling unsafe, I still showed up. I adapted. I kept going.
And I am proud of that.
💙 Walk for Autism starts today! 💙
Thursday 26th Mar
I am aiming for 10k steps a day to help fund our autistic adult social groups - spaces where people find belonging, confidence, and genuine community.
Every step helps us keep these groups running and growing.
Every donation helps someone feel less alone.
Every share makes a difference.
Let’s walk for acceptance, inclusion and community.
🌟 Kicking Off Our Walk for Autism: Journey with Purpose
Tuesday 24th Mar
Every year, our workplace proudly steps into Autism Acceptance Month by taking part in the Walk for Autism, and this year we are doing it again with even more heart. From 26 March to 2 April, I have committed to walking a minimum of 10,000 steps every day - a personal challenge that reflects both my dedication to the cause and the importance of the work we do.
We will bring the week to a close with a group celebration walk on 3 April and everyone is invited to join us.
This sponsored walk isn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other. It’s about walking with purpose-raising vital funds to keep our social groups running smoothly and ensuring they remain a safe, welcoming space for everyone who needs them.
