raise awareness

Friday 20th Mar

Every step I take has a purpose. I’ve committed to walking 10,000 steps a day, not just for fitness, but to raise awareness for autism. For me, this challenge is about more than hitting a number on a screen. It’s about creating conversations, encouraging understanding, and showing support for a community that deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.

Autism affects how people experience the world. It’s not something that needs to be “fixed”, it’s something that needs to be understood. Yet, many individuals on the autism spectrum still face misunderstanding, stigma, and lack of support in everyday life. That’s why awareness matters.

Walking every day gives me time to reflect on that. With each step, I think about the importance of acceptance, inclusion, and patience. I think about families, individuals, and advocates who work tirelessly to create a more supportive world.

This journey isn’t about perfection. Some days are harder than others. Some days I’m tired, busy, or unmotivated. But I keep going, because awareness doesn’t happen overnight, it’s built step by step.

If my 10,000 steps can spark even one conversation, change one perspective, or encourage one person to learn more, then it’s worth it because awareness leads to understanding. And understanding leads to acceptance. And that’s a step in the right direction.
