Walking for Autism: A Journey Close to My Heart

From 26th March to 2nd April, I’ll be walking 10,000 steps every single day for 8 days as part of the Walk for Autism challenge supporting the National Autistic Society.

The reason I’m doing this is very close to my heart. My daughter is currently waiting for an autism assessment, and like so many families going through this journey, it can sometimes feel uncertain and emotional while you’re trying to understand your child and make sure they get the support they deserve.

Autistic children see the world differently, and they deserve patience, understanding and the right support to help them thrive. Organisations like the National Autistic Society provide vital help for families who are navigating this path.

So for 8 days I’ll be getting my steps in — rain or shine — to raise awareness and funds for autistic people and their families.

If you’re able to support me by donating to my fundraising page, no matter how big or small, it would mean a lot to me and my family. And if you can’t donate, sharing this post would also help massively.

Thank you for reading and supporting this cause 💙

Every step I take is for my daughter and others just like her.

Day 8 FINAL DAY 💚

Thursday 2nd Apr
I DID IT!! 💪💙 I’m not even going to lie… it’s been hard. Some days were a lot tougher than others. I’ve pushed myself through everything, Strong winds, pouring rain, sunshine, even hailstones hitting down… but none of it beat me. There were moments I didn’t feel like going out. Moments where it would’ve been easy to stop. But I didn’t. I kept going. Step by step, no matter the weather, no matter how I felt. Because this was bigger than me. This was for awareness. This was for understanding. This was for every child, every family, every person living with autism 💙 I’ve shown myself what I’m capable of. I’ve proved that no matter the challenge, if your “why” is strong enough… you don’t quit. And I didn’t just hit the target… I SMASHED it 💥 I did an extra 17,390 steps, taking me to a massive 97,390 steps over the 8 days… when the goal was only 80,000 👣💪 Thank you to everyone who’s supported, donated, shared, and followed this journey, It honestly means everything 🙏 WE DID IT 💚👣 There is still time to donate if you haven’t already – the deadline is 30th April, and every single contribution makes a difference 🙌💚 #WalkForAutism #FinalDay #IDidIt #AutismAwareness #NoLimits

Day 7 💚

Wednesday 1st Apr
Today was all about mindset 💪🔥 Woke up with a proper headache before I’d even taken a single step… had to lie down in a dark room just to try shake it off. It never fully went, and I’ll be honest, everything in me was saying “just leave it today.” But quitting wasn’t an option. Got out with Lana and Mollie and took on this route around our local area, through the woods and down by the canal. Step by step, pushing through it, no excuses. And you know what… once we got going, it turned into one of those walks you’re proud of. Fresh air, family time, and that feeling of not letting yourself give in 👊 Finished the day on 10,178 steps ✅ This is what it’s about, Discipline over excuses. Even when you don’t feel 100%, you show up, you push through, and you get it done 🔥 Different level of determination today 💯

Day 6 💚

Tuesday 31st Mar
Started the morning the best way I know how, A peaceful walk around our local park with Kez 🐕 just me, fresh air, and a chance to clear my head before the day properly began. Later on, we all headed out for some proper family time at Tropical World 🌿🐒 Me, my wife, and the girls had such a lovely day together. The gardens were beautiful, the scenery was so calming, and seeing all the different animals made it even more special. Moments like that really remind you what it’s all about 💚 And as a bonus… I managed to get some more steps in too! 👣 After that, we popped into a few shops to grab bits and bats, then finished the day off productively by giving the car a clean when we got home 🚗✨ To top it all off, me and Kez headed back out this evening for another walk to finish off the steps and make sure we hit the goal 💪🐕 Total steps today: 11,326 👣 Every single step counts on this journey, and days like today – full of family, fresh air, and purpose – make it all worth it 💚 #WalkForAutism #Day6 #FamilyTime #everystepcounts

Day 5 💚

Monday 30th Mar
Today’s walk really meant a lot 💚 I covered a good route around our local area, taking in the main roads, quiet streets, and loops through the community, Pushing myself to keep going step by step no matter what. Every turn, every stretch, all building towards that goal. But the most special part of today was earlier on… my daughter walked an amazing 7K steps with me 🥹💚 Seeing her determination, her strength, and just being side by side together meant everything. Moments like that remind me exactly why I’m doing this. Then later on, it was just me and my dog Kez 🐾 heading back out to finish the final 3K steps around our local park. It was quiet, a bit of time to think, reflect, and push through to the end. 10K steps done… but more importantly, it was done with love, purpose, and determination. This journey isn’t just about the steps, It’s about raising awareness, showing support, and doing something meaningful for such an important cause. If you can support, donate, or even just share, it honestly means the world 🙏💚 Total steps today - 10,407 #WalkForAutism #ProudMoment #StepByStep

Day 4 💚

Sunday 29th Mar
Today’s walk definitely wasn’t an easy one 🌧️💨 I stuck to my local area, covering loads of streets and paths nearby as well as the local park, but the weather really tried to test me. With wind gusts hitting around 45MPH and rain in the air, it would’ve been easy to just stay home… but I didn’t. Every step felt harder battling against the wind, even with the rain coming down, but I kept going. Days like this are where the real effort shows, Not when it’s sunny and easy, but when it’s tough and you still turn up. 10,246 steps later and it’s done 💪 No excuses, just determination. The weather didn’t stop me today 👊

Day 3 💚

Saturday 28th Mar
UP EARLY AND STRAIGHT INTO IT ⚽️🔥 Steps started stacking from the minute I got to football, Doing the warm ups, non-stop up and down the sidelines during the match… no standing still today 👣 Quick trip to the shops after and I was already on 5,000 steps… But that wasn’t enough ❌ Back out I went to FINISH THE JOB 💪 And the weather tried EVERYTHING — sunshine ☀️, rain 🌧️, hailstones ❄️ and crazy wind 💨… BUT I KEPT GOING 👊 Also bumped into my grandma on the way 😂💚 You’ll probably see and hear her in a few clips… and yeah, sorry about the language in advance haha 😅 No excuses. No shortcuts. Just pure graft and determination to hit my goal 💯 TOTAL STEPS – 11,271 👣🔥 Every single step is for a reason… and I’m not slowing down anytime soon 💚 #WalkForAutism #Day3 #NoExcuses #KeepPushing #StepByStep #AutismAwareness #Graft

Day 2 walk 💚

Day 2 💚

Friday 27th Mar
Today I got out again and pushed through 12,903 steps 👣 My route took me around the local area, heading out towards Idle Rec and looping through the surrounding streets, including Leeds Road and back around the estate. A solid route with a mix of steady paths and turns that kept the legs working the whole way. I won’t lie… today was tougher. My feet and toes are really starting to feel it now, that constant ache you get after putting in the miles, especially when you’re back out again the next day. Every step at one point felt heavier than the last. But this is where it matters most. Because even with the pain, the reason behind it is bigger. Every step is for awareness, support, and making a difference for autism. That’s what keeps me going when my body is telling me to stop. So we keep moving forward 👊

Day 1 💚

Thursday 26th Mar
Walk for Autism started strong today 🙌 Set off from home, heading along Leeds Road, looping up towards the River Aire, then making my way back down the canal, finishing where I started. A solid 8 mile walk 👟 I hit 16,652 steps just from the walk alone 💪 After the walk, I stopped off at a little café along the canal for a bite to eat and a well-earned treat ☕️ Then finished the day off at football training ⚽️, where I added the remaining 4,263 steps to push myself even further 🔥 Total for today: 20,915 steps 🙌 This is more than just a challenge it’s about raising awareness and supporting something that means a lot to me 💚 7 more days to go… let’s keep pushing. If you can, show some love, share, or support it really does mean everything 🙏 #WalkForAutism #Day1 #AutismAwareness #10kSteps #FootballTraining #8Miles #KeepGoing

Watching you take on this Autism Awareness Walk fills my heart with so much pride. 💙 You have chosen to stand up and raise awareness for, and that means more than words can ever explain. You know first-hand how important understanding, support, and patience are — especially with our beautiful granddaughter who faces her own challenges every day. Seeing you turn love into action and walk to help other families like ours is something truly special. There are so many parents and grandparents out there going through the same journey, and the money you raise will help bring awareness, support, and hope to them. Your goal of £500 isn’t just a number. It represents real help for real families who sometimes feel alone, overwhelmed, or misunderstood. I want you to know how incredibly proud I am of you. Your kindness, strength, and determination show what an amazing person you are. Our granddaughter is so lucky to have you fighting for awareness and understanding in her corner. No matter what the final amount is, you’ve already made a difference just by doing this. And I’ll be cheering you on every single step of the way. Love you always. 💙 Mum
