Walking for Autism – Why This Means So Much to Me

Monday 23rd Mar

This year, I’m taking part in Walk for Autism,Ā and it’s something that’s incredibly close to my heart.

Like many parents, my journey into understanding autism hasn’t been straightforward. My daughter, Hallie, is currently being assessed, and while we don’t yet have all the answers, what we do have is a growing awareness, a deep love, and a strong desire to better understand her world. That alone has opened my eyes in ways I never expected.

Through this journey, I’ve also had the privilege of meeting so many incredible children. Children who see the world differently, who experience things more intensely, and who each have their own unique way of communicating, connecting, and expressing themselves. They are bright, funny, loving, and full of potential, but far too often, they and their families are left fighting for the support they deserve.

That’s why this walk matters.

There is still such a gap when it comes to early intervention, access to services, and consistent support from agencies. Families are often left waiting, chasing, and advocating tirelessly, when what they really need is understanding, guidance, and timely help. No child should fall behind simply because the system couldn’t keep up with them.

Walking for autism isn’t just about raising money, it’s about raising awareness. It’s about standing up for children like Hallie, and for every other child who deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. It’s about pushing for better resources, better understanding, and better outcomes for families navigating this path.

For me, every step I take is for her, and for all the other amazing children I’ve met along the way.

If you can support, share, or even just take a moment to learn more about autism, it truly makes a difference.

Because every child deserves the chance to thrive.
