Why I’m Walking for Autism

Wednesday 21st Jan

This walk isn’t about “fixing” autism.

It’s about being seen.

I’m walking for the parts of myself that were called too much or not enough.

For the moments I stayed quiet because the world felt too loud.

For the times I masked so well that no one realised how exhausted I was underneath.

Autism isn’t one thing. It isn’t a stereotype, a checklist, or a tragedy. It’s a spectrum made up of real people with real lives , people who feel deeply, think differently, and often have to work twice as hard just to exist in a world that wasn’t built with them in mind.

Growing up, I learned how to adapt before I learned how to rest.

How to blend in before I learned that I was allowed to stand out.

How to survive, but not always how to be kind to myself.

This walk is for autistic people who were never given the words to explain themselves.

For those who were misunderstood in classrooms, workplaces, friendships, and families.

For those who were told they were “dramatic”, “lazy”, “awkward”, or “difficult”, when in reality they were overwhelmed, unsupported, and trying their best.

I’m walking for acceptance  not awareness that stops at a poster or a hashtag, but acceptance that looks like listening, patience, and real support. Acceptance that says you don’t need to change who you are to deserve care.

Every step I take is a reminder that autistic lives are valuable, complex, and worthy of understanding.

Not despite our differences but because of them.

Thank you to everyone who supports this walk, whether by donating, sharing, or simply taking the time to read this. It means more than you know.

This walk is for all of us who deserve a world that meets us halfway.

Thank you to my donors
