I'm walking 10,000 steps a day for Autism Initiatives

Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

I'll be walking 10,000 steps a day from 26th March to 2nd April to raise money for this fantastic charity. I’ll be doing the walk for.

My son Austin has recently begun his autism spectrum journey. Like many parents, when we first stepped into this new chapter, it came with a mix of emotions questions, worries, and a desire to understand how best to support him as he grows into himself.

What I’ve already learned is this:

Autism doesn’t define Austin, Austin defines his autism.

He is still the same bright, curious, loving child he has always been. This hasn’t changed who he is; it simply gave us a better understanding of how his mind works, how he experiences the world, and how we can meet him where he is with patience, compassion, and confidence.

This walk is for Austin for his future, for his voice, and for a world that learns to see his strengths before his differences.

Before Austin’s journey began, there was Noah.

My little cousin Noah was the one who truly opened my eyes to what autism really is. Through him, I learned that autism is not something to be feared, fixed, or pitied. It’s a different way of thinking, feeling, and interacting with the world and it comes with its own incredible perspectives and abilities.

Noah showed me that autism should never be seen as a disadvantage. He showed me joy, honesty, resilience, and a way of seeing the world that is beautifully unique. Because of him, I learned to replace assumptions with understanding and labels with love.
