I'm walking 10,000 steps a day for Autism Initiatives

Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

I'll be walking 10,000 steps a day from 26th March to 2nd April to raise money for this fantastic charity. Please sponsor me.

Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated 😊

Here is our story:
My daughter Dollie has suspected autism, I say suspected as this has not been diagnosed by the autism team yet however multiple medical and SEN professionals have agreed that Dollie meets the criteria of autism and we have been told on many occasions she is ‘text book’.

Having a child with autism creates a completely different world to the world and life you expected. Dollie is currently non verbal which creates its own challenges in every day life beyond the family home.

Gaining support and evidence for diagnosis is incredibly difficult, the process of obtaining an EHCP so that Dollie can go to a specialist school and get the education she deserves and is entitled to is an incredibly difficult process with lots of hurdles.

Raising a child with special needs is often a very lonely, stressful, hard and tiring job but my life will now be spent advocating for Dollie and using my voice when she cannot use hers. We have an incredible bond and I love my daughter more than I ever imagined possible.

I could sit for hours and go into the ins and outs of our life and the sleepless nights however I want Dollie to be seen for who she is. A clever, beautiful, funny and most importantly a very kind soul. She is not defined by her disability and she is not a statistic nor is she a bother or a ‘shame’, she is simply my baby.
