Why i’m raising money
Tuesday 27th JanI’m a support worker, and I work closely with adults with special needs and disabilities. This isn’t something I’m doing from a distance — it’s part of my everyday life. I see first-hand the challenges people face, not just because of their disabilities, but because the world often isn’t built to understand or support them properly.
Autism affects people in so many different ways. No two individuals are the same, yet too often autism is misunderstood, oversimplified, or ignored altogether. I’ve seen how powerful the right support can be — and how damaging the lack of it is. Something as simple as patience, clear communication, or understanding sensory needs can completely change someone’s quality of life.
That’s why this walk means so much to me.
I’m raising money to help fund services, resources, and advocacy that support autistic people and their families. Autism UK does incredible work to provide guidance, raise awareness, and push for a more inclusive society — and that’s something I believe in deeply.
This challenge isn’t easy. Walking nearly 19,000 steps a day for over a week will be physically demanding, tiring, and at times uncomfortable. But that discomfort is nothing compared to the daily barriers many autistic people face — barriers that come from misunderstanding, lack of acceptance, and limited access to support.
I’m doing this because I want to make a difference, even if it feels small. I want to use my time, my energy, and my voice to help create a world where autistic people are not just supported, but respected and understood.
I also believe that everyone should have a basic understanding of autism. Understanding leads to empathy. Empathy leads to inclusion. And inclusion changes lives. Whether it’s in the workplace, education, healthcare, or everyday social situations, awareness truly matters.
This walk is my way of turning passion into action.Â
