My Brother

Saturday 24th Jan
Many of you will have seen me post about my brother and his achievements despite his Autism over the years but here’s the reality …

Autism isn’t something that is easily diagnosed and can often takes years meaning that during this time, that person is left struggling due to the need for specific resources and support and wondering what is ‘wrong’ with them or why they are ‘different’. This can also be an extremely tough time for parents blaming themselves for ‘not being good enough’ and often crying out for support themselves which unfortunately just simply isn’t available without the diagnosis.

Like many, my brother has had to overcome many hurdles in life from being held back a year in school to struggling in the adult world due to lack of opportunities available to him. Alongside that, every day involves a lot of planning just simply to get through let alone to think about the months worth of planning for any big event taking place and all the negative emotions experienced too. Then there’s the routine and daily rituals which if broken can cause a whole heap of different attitudes and behaviours displayed.

We all think that life is tough as it is … so let’s come together and raise money to provide resources and opportunities for people with Autism making it much easier for them to navigate daily life.
