Harrison 🩵

Friday 13th Feb
For our son Harrison.

Harrison is my 9 year old son. We are currently filling out the paperwork, along with school and gaining evidence, for an Autism/ADHD diagnosis.
Harrison struggles a lot, and the traits are there, I’ve always noticed certain traits, but since the end of year 3 and coming into year 4, the traits are more noticeable  as he got older, and his wonderful teacher ( new teacher, so she didn’t know Harrison, so I feel it was easier for her to notice! Aswell as the new assistant head for the school ) , are helping me with the paperwork, as she could tell straight away, he’s on the spectrum.

Harrison, has to have rigid routine, routine routine!
And he has to follow the rules, Harrison, cannot comprehend the way some things are, or why you would do certain things, he can’t comprehend certain conversations or situations, you have to explain it in a different way or another certain way for him to understand, which can often be difficult with social interactions and conversations,  he will only talk to certain people, and only if he wants too. He also can’t understand people’s feelings, he’s blunt and will be honest, and if he sees it as the truth, but again can’t comprehend if you’d be upset, if you don’t like the conversation. He can’t understand sarcasm at all.
He doesn’t like busy, & loads of people.
He can shutdown a lot, if it’s too busy, to peopley, if he becomes overwhelmed, and upset, he doesn’t like loads of talking and loud noises , he has ear defenders. He’ll usually hide under a table, out the way if things become to stressful.
He has intense interest in certain things, like his swimming, Roblox and Minecraft!
He fidgets a lot and can’t sit still, often climbing or running, and on the go all the time, if he’s not in his shutdown, he’s in all sorts of positions, and he has intense blinking, and looks away, when talking to you, like he can’t focus.
He doesn’t like certain textures, like denim,  silky t/shirts ( like the ones from SHEIN!) tight clothing or labels in clothes.
Foods like pasta, spaghetti and noodles he can’t eat, as he doesn’t like the texture, thinks it’s slimy.
His foods have to be separate, gravy on a roast, can’t be over it. Jacket potato, cheese and beans at the side. No casseroles or shepherds pie.
And sleep? Sleeps for the weak. Sleep late, wake up early.

But Harrison, is our Harrison. He’s perfect in every way.
He’s often said he’s not normal, but what’s normal.
Everyone’s normal is different. There is not one person the same.
He’s our Harrison, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about him, he gives the best snuggles.

I love you our boy, Thankyou for letting me be your mama 🩵
