Walking for My Son: Raising Awareness for Autism
Wednesday 4th MarThis year, I’m taking part in a walk for autism — and I’m doing it for someone very special… my son.
Right now, he’s going through the autism diagnosis process. It’s a journey filled with appointments, questions, waiting lists, and a lot of unknowns. But more than anything, it’s a journey filled with love, learning, and understanding.
As a parent, you always want the world to be kind to your child. You want them to feel accepted, supported, and understood for exactly who they are. That’s why this walk means so much to me. It’s not just about raising money — it’s about raising awareness.
Autism isn’t always visible. It doesn’t come with a single look or a single story. Every child is different. Every experience is unique. Some days are incredible, full of laughter and proud moments. Other days can be challenging, confusing, and overwhelming — not just for our children, but for us as parents trying to navigate systems that don’t always feel straightforward.
The diagnosis process itself can feel long and emotional. You question yourself. You research everything. You replay moments in your head. But through it all, one thing stays constant — unconditional love and the determination to do everything you can for your child.
I’m walking to help spread understanding.
I’m walking to help break stereotypes.
I’m walking so that children like my son grow up in a world that celebrates differences instead of questioning them.
Autism awareness isn’t about labels — it’s about acceptance. It’s about patience in supermarkets. It’s about understanding in classrooms. It’s about compassion in playgrounds. It’s about giving families the support they need without judgement.
If you’re reading this, I’d love your support — whether that’s donating, sharing this post, or simply taking a moment to learn more about autism and what families go through during diagnosis.
Most importantly, I’m walking for my son.
For his future.
For his confidence.
For a world where he can be completely, unapologetically himself.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
