Our Autism Journey – Fighting Battles We Didn’t Even Know We Were Fighting

Saturday 14th Feb

For years, I felt like I was fighting a battle I didn’t understand. I struggled with everyday things, felt overwhelmed easily, and often blamed myself for not coping the way others seemed to. Recently, I was diagnosed with autism — and suddenly, my whole life made sense. It brought relief, but also heartbreak for the years I spent not knowing.

At the same time, I’ve been fighting for my daughter.

She attended a school that didn’t properly support SEN children, and we faced daily challenges that many people don’t see — clothing causing distress because of fabric or seams, food textures that feel unbearable, overwhelming days out, claustrophobia, and sensory overload that affects both home and school life.

After a long battle to be heard, she has now been diagnosed with high sensory needs. She is amazing, bright, and sensitive — she just experiences the world more intensely.

This fundraiser isn’t just about money. It’s about awareness, understanding, and support for families like ours who are fighting battles behind closed doors.

Thank you for helping us feel less alone. 💛
