I’m walking for autism 💚

Thursday 12th Feb
I am walking to raise money for the charity called autism initiatives group, they are a charity that offer support and help to people with autism across all ages and their families. This could be supported living, or specialist provisions for autistic children.

Why am I walking?
Walking for autism not only to helps raise money towards a charity that can make a difference to so many lives. But also to raise awareness, not everyone sees our would in the same way, this organisation helps to improve communication, understanding and access across all communities.

Who am I walking for?
While this charity is so important in supporting every child and family with autism, this also holds a very special place within my heart and home.
2 of my 4 children are on the pathway for autism diagnosis, both have very different needs and characteristics.
My oldest, Elsie (9 years old), she was first referred for her assessments in year 1 of school. She struggled emotionally, socially and with her education. Due to excessive wait times for a diagnosis, main steam school was unable to give her the support she needed. Her self esteem became very low and as a family we made the choice for home education. And although she is now thriving and happy, she does not get the social interaction with her peers. This charity helps to offer specialist provision for autistic children, and the schools work in partnership to ensure everyone grows to their full potential.  Outreach services also include creating inclusive learning environments & improved understanding in mainstream settings.
My second youngest, Hunter (2 years old), is currently awaiting his assessment. Hunter is currently non-verbal and has sensory and social needs. This charity offers support to children in community hubs that offer inclusive activities and social opportunities that encourage participation, connection, and community engagement. Again, this charity also supports Autism specialist schools that offer tailored learning environments designed to support inclusive education and positive learning experiences. Which is something Hunter may need access to.

My reason for waking is simple, acceptance. Every child, or person with autism should be accepted into every community. Raising awareness is important to me and my family, but if you are able to make a donation, any amount is appreciated and can really make a difference to people’s lives💚

Thank you, abbey x
