I'm walking 10,000 steps a day for Autism Initiatives

This year I’m taking part in Walk for Autism, committing to walking 10,000 steps every day, and I’m doing it for the most important reason of all, my daughter Amelia.

Amelia is autistic, and autism is part of our everyday life. It shapes how she experiences the world and how we move through it together as a family. Some days are challenging, some days are joyful, and many days are a mixture of both, but every day Amelia shows strength, determination and her own unique way of seeing the world.

From the outside, people may not always see the challenges she faces, or the strength it takes for her to navigate a world that isn’t built for her. As her parent, I see it all, the struggles, the frustrations, and the tiny victories that mean everything.

I’m walking to raise awareness and understanding, and to help support the services and charities that make such a difference to autistic people and their families. Support that provides vital resources, creates opportunities, and reminds families like ours that we are not alone.

Every step I take is for Amelia, and for all autistic children and adults. It’s for greater understanding, better support, and a more inclusive world where difference is accepted and valued. Amelia may not always use words, but she communicates in so many meaningful ways and teaches me daily about patience, resilience and unconditional love.

These 10,000 steps are my way of showing up for her, every day, just as she does in a world that isn’t always built with her in mind. I walk with love, pride and hope for Amelia’s future. 🩷
