Walking 10,000 Steps a Day for Autism Awareness: My Why, My Journey, Our Impact

Wednesday 4th Feb
My name is Jess, I’m 24, and for eight days I’m committing to walking 10,000 steps every single day. Not for fitness. Not for a challenge. But for something far more meaningful — raising awareness and support for autistic children, including my own little girl who inspires me every single day.

This walk isn’t just about steps. It’s about stories. It’s about visibility. It’s about showing the world that autistic children deserve understanding, acceptance, and the right support to thrive.

Why I’m Doing This

Becoming a mum to an autistic child opened my eyes in ways I never expected. I’ve learned how much joy, creativity, and uniqueness autistic children bring into the world — but I’ve also seen the challenges families face. Long waiting lists. Limited resources. Misunderstandings. Judgement. The feeling of having to fight for the basics.

No parent should feel alone in that. No child should be overlooked.

So this walk is my way of turning love into action. Every step is for my daughter. Every step is for the children who need support. Every step is for the families doing their best with what they have.

What These 8 Days Mean to Me

Eight days might not sound like much, but anyone juggling parenting, work, life, and emotions knows it’s a commitment. There will be tired days. Busy days. Days where the weather isn’t on my side. But I’ll keep going — because autistic children don’t get to take a break from the world’s challenges.

This walk is a reminder that small, consistent actions can create big change.

How You Can Support

Whether you donate, share my journey, or simply take a moment to learn more about autism, you’re helping make a difference. Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to acceptance. Acceptance leads to better lives for autistic children and their families.

And that’s what this is all about.

Join Me

Follow along as I share my daily steps, thoughts, and little victories. I hope my journey encourages others to speak up, get involved, and celebrate the incredible autistic community.

Together, we can create a world where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated — exactly as they are.
