WHY AM I DOING THE WALK FOR AUTISM:

Hey guys!!!
So I did this last year and loved it so much!!
Last year I raised £500 to help walk for autism!!
Autism is something very meaningful to me as both my brothers are autistic.  I am studying to be an occupational therapist and I have done placements in learning disabilities. Seeing how autism affects individuals can be magical but also very upsetting. Seeing the discrimination some of these people face is heartbreaking!!
I wish I had the power to change the world and make it more accepting and accessible but unfortunately I don’t have that power so doing small things such as involving myself in charities and hoping to help people when I qualify is my aim.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SUPPORT:
Any help would be appreciated!! I understand sometimes people cannot or do not want to donate and that’s completely fine!!  You can share my page out!! I will be posting on Facebook and I will be involved with my university doing events such as bake sales!!
If u are wanting to donate u can donate from as little as £1!! U don’t have to pay this monthly it is a ONE time payment!!
Now I understand some people won’t trust a random website, if this is the case then feel free to send the money to me and I’ll send it to the charity 🙂

WHAT IS THE WALK FOR AUTISM:

Walk for Autism is a fundraising challenge run by Autism Initiatives Group. Autism Initiatives Group is working towards a world where every autistic person has the support they need to thrive, every opportunity to fulfil their potential and a supportive, inclusive community to live in.

I'll be walking 10,000 steps a day from 26th March to 2nd April to raise money for this fantastic charity. Please sponsor me.

Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated 😊

LETS BE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!! 💚💚

ASD in women

Monday 26th Jan
Let’s talk about ASD in women!! But not even just ASD! The whole spectrum!!

Growing up I found it immensely difficult with my emotions and with education.
Every girl growing up is told it’s one of these issues:
Hormones, dramatic, emotional, just a child, period, trauma
But never a disability!!
DISABILITY IS NOT A DIRTY WORD!!
When in college, they suspected I had ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalcula..
I always struggled reading and maths.
Sitting at the table crying trying to do maths homework. I got a tutor to pass my gcse which I only just scraped a grade 4.
Throughout my education, I’ve had the luck to be able to have have an extra room or extra time but not all places are inclusive!!
Getting comments about my spelling.

Work life is awful! Having to remain professional at all times when all u want to do is dance about, make jokes and cuddle the patients who you know desperately need it!!

20 years and still no diagnosis!! 20 years and still left questioning what is wrong with me and why I can’t “ just be normal”, why I can’t make friends or why I can’t just sit in my lesson and obtain information.

Now the frustration is not about the system, it’s about how boys/men get their symptoms recognised however women/ girls do not. They is always a check list before they consider a disability. They is always an excuse.

Girls/ women are more common to mask ( hiding their symptoms) and this makes it more difficult for a diagnosis!!! More training is needed in disabilities and more people should be aware of those with disabilities!!!

Not one autistic person is the same and that is why the spectrum is so important to understand!! Why it’s so frustrating!! Because being diagnosed you have to fit in their check list!!

DISABILITY IS NOT A DIRTY WORD AND I AM NOT AFRAID TO SAY THAT I AM DISABLED!!!

Hiii everyone!!

Sunday 18th Jan
WELCOME BACK!! AND WELCOME NEW COMERS!!

I look forward to sharing my walk for autism journey with you!!

LETS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
